WoW Forever Priest talent builds: Penance, Prayer of Mending and Shadowform
Forever gives Discipline Penance, Holy Prayer of Mending and Shadow a reworked Shadowform. How each tree builds, which milestones matter, and what changed in beta.
Blizzard describes the WoW Forever Priest as the most versatile healer, with heals over time, direct heals and absorb shields. Each tree now has a clearer identity. Discipline is built around Power Word: Shield and Penance, Holy around Binding Heal and Prayer of Mending, and Shadow around damage over time.
These are build directions, not point-by-point optimal builds. Talents are still changing in beta. Plan your own points in the WoW Forever Priest talent calculator.
How Forever talents work
Talents start at level 10, with one-point milestones at 11, 16, 21 and 31 points. Talents are changed at a class trainer in a major city, and dual specialization unlocks at level 40. Source: Blizzard's Priest and Warrior class deep dive.
What every Priest gets
- Fear Ward and Devouring Plague are available to every Priest at level 20, whatever their race.
- Divine Spirit is baseline at level 30, so the raid buff no longer costs talent points.
- Shadow Word: Death is baseline at 32. It is instant Shadow damage, and you take 10% of your maximum health if it does not kill.
- Prayer of Healing now heals the target's party instead of yours.
- Renew can be active from several Priests on the same target.
- Fade reduces twice as much threat.
Racial abilities were re-evaluated too. Some examples: Gnomes get Contingency Plan, a ward that shields and heals an ally who drops low. Dwarves get Chastise, a short root on humanoids. Humans get Divine Grace, an instant heal on a low ally. Undead get Dark Sacrifice, which turns health into mana.
Discipline: shields and Penance
- Twin Disciplines raises the damage and healing of instant spells.
- Holy Precision adds up to 18% Holy hit, so healers do not need hit gear to deal damage.
- Silent Resolve now also shortens stuns, fears and silences on you.
- Meditation gives much more mana regeneration from Spirit.
- Soul Warding is the 16-point milestone. It lowers Power Word: Shield's cooldown and mana cost.
- Renewed Hope requires Soul Warding. Your direct heals crit more often on targets with Weakened Soul, and each heal shortens Weakened Soul.
- Penance is the 21-point milestone. It is a 2-second channel on a 12-second cooldown that damages enemies or heals allies.
- Divine Aegis makes critical heals leave a 12-second absorb shield.
Direction: Discipline is a shield healer. Soul Warding and Renewed Hope together turn Power Word: Shield into the center of your healing. The October 8 beta notes reduced Penance's damage and healing while fixing a channel bug, so check current values.
Holy: group healing
- Twilight Focus protects all of your casts from pushback.
- Inspiration now triggers from all non-periodic critical heals.
- Improved Healing also lowers the mana cost of Penance and Prayer of Mending.
- Binding Heal is the 16-point milestone. It heals you and your target with a 1.5-second cast and no cooldown, tuned to match Flash Heal even when you do not need the self-heal.
- Litany of Light refunds mana when you use a different healing spell than your last one.
- Spiritual Healing costs 3 points.
- Prayer of Mending is the 31-point milestone and requires Spirit of Redemption. It heals the next time its target takes damage, then jumps to a nearby ally, up to five heals.
Direction: Holy rewards switching between heals through Litany of Light, and Prayer of Mending gives raids a healer whose output follows incoming damage. Lightwell and Improved Prayer of Healing are gone.
Shadow: damage over time
- Shadow Focus now raises Shadow hit chance and sits in the first row.
- Improved Mind Flay increases Mind Flay's damage and range but weakens its slow.
- Silence no longer requires Improved Psychic Scream.
- Vampiric Embrace is the 16-point milestone, now lasting 30 seconds on a 1-minute cooldown.
- Shadow Weaving now benefits only you, not your group.
- Devouring Contagion cheapens Devouring Plague and spreads it to a nearby enemy when the target dies.
- Early Demise raises Shadow Word: Death's crit chance below 20% health.
- Shadowform lets you cast every non-healing spell in form, halves Shadow mana costs and doubles the Shadow crit damage bonus.
Direction: Shadow is a damage-over-time build with an execute in Shadow Word: Death. Blizzard notes it brings less utility than a Warlock. Since Shadow Weaving no longer helps other players, a Shadow Priest is in the raid for their own damage and Vampiric Embrace.
About the calculator data
The GuildManager calculator uses BlizzCon demo data dated September 13, 2026. Its Priest trees match Blizzard's deep dive. Beta changes since then are tuning: Renew and Devouring Plague can crit, Power Word: Shield can overwrite a shield on targets without Weakened Soul, and Penance plus several spell ranks were rebalanced on October 8.
For officers
Priests bring Fear Ward from every race, Divine Spirit without talents, and flexible healing. Because Renew from several Priests now stacks on one target and Prayer of Healing heals the target's party, healing assignments work differently than in Classic. Our raid sizes and roster planning guide covers healer counts.
