WoW Forever Hunter talent builds: pet, Lone Wolf and melee Survival
Forever's Hunter trees split into pet damage, petless Marksmanship and a real melee Survival. How each milestone shapes the build, and what changed in beta.
Hunters in WoW Forever have three very different ways to deal damage. Beast Mastery leans on your pet and a summoned Hawk. Marksmanship can drop the pet entirely through Lone Wolf. Survival is now a melee option with bleeds and dual-wield bonuses.
These are build directions, not point-by-point optimal builds, and talents are still changing in beta. Plan your own points in the WoW Forever Hunter talent calculator.
How Forever talents work
Talents start at level 10, with one-point milestones at 11, 16, 21 and 31 points. Talents are changed at a class trainer in a major city, and dual specialization unlocks at level 40. Source: Blizzard's Hunter and Druid class deep dive.
What every Hunter gets
- Aimed Shot is baseline at level 20 and now shares a cooldown with Multi-Shot instead of Arcane Shot.
- Traps can be used in combat on a 30-second cooldown, and Frost and Fire traps have separate cooldowns. Traps are still placed at your own position.
- Disengage reduces twice as much threat.
- Aspect of the Beast also grants melee attack power.
- Scorpid Sting now lowers the target's hit chance by 2%.
- Improved Hunter's Mark and Improved Eyes of the Beast are baseline.
Pets changed too. Their stats scale with your gear, but they no longer receive player buffs. Every family can learn Bite or Claw and Dive or Dash, and each family has one unique ability. The new Fox family brings Trickster's Dance for dodge and attack speed. A Wolf's Furious Howl raises party melee attack power, a Turtle's Shell Shield cuts damage taken, and a Tallstrider's Dust Cloud lowers armor. The September 24 beta notes cut Furious Howl's bonus by 40%.
Blizzard notes Hunters still have a dead zone within 8 yards and cannot stun or interrupt.
Beast Mastery: pet damage
- Deadly Aspects can grant attack speed from melee hits while Aspect of the Beast is active.
- Focused Fire increases all damage you and your pet deal while the pet is out.
- Endurance Training now includes the old Thick Hide, adding pet health and armor.
- Summon Hawk is the 16-point milestone. It deals instant damage and summons a Hawk for 18 seconds, with up to two at once. It shares a cooldown with Arcane Shot.
- Unleashed Fury and Ferocity now also apply to Hawks.
- Intimidation requires Bestial Swiftness and gives the pet's next attack double crit chance.
- Bestial Discipline adds Spirit-based mana regeneration while casting.
Direction: Blizzard notes a Hunter's pet can tank in solo and small-group play, and Beast Mastery invests the most in that pet, which makes it a natural leveling tree. Summon Hawk at 16 points adds burst without managing a second pet. Endurance Training matters if your pet will tank elites.
Marksmanship: ranged, with or without a pet
- Lethal Attacks raises crit for all attacks and sits in the first row.
- Careful Aim adds attack power based on Intellect, and Mortal Shots requires it.
- Efficiency now discounts Stings, melee abilities and Shots.
- Lone Wolf at 11 points gives 20% more damage with all attacks when you have no active pet. The September 24 notes removed a damage penalty for picking it and then using a pet.
- Rapid Killing shortens Rapid Fire's cooldown and empowers your next Shot after a kill. Rapid Recuperation restores mana after Serpent Sting hits.
- Trueshot Aura is the 21-point milestone and gained lower ranks.
- Barrage now also affects Aimed Shot, Multi-Shot and Volley.
- Sniper Shot at 31 points is a 4-second cast with a 15-second cooldown, 45-yard range and more damage than Aimed Shot. It also extends the range of your next three Shots.
Direction: The big decision is Lone Wolf. Without a pet you gain a flat damage bonus and simpler play, but lose the pet's damage, utility and tanking. Trueshot Aura at 21 is the group-oriented milestone.
Survival: melee and traps
- Improved Tracking combines Monster Slaying and Humanoid Slaying. It increases damage against the creature type you are tracking.
- Savage Strikes raises all melee damage, and Predator's Edge adds melee crit damage and off-hand damage while dual-wielding.
- Entrapment now always triggers when your trap does. The October 8 notes limited it to Frost Trap's first activation and added diminishing returns.
- Counterattack moved to the 16-point milestone.
- Resourcefulness lowers the mana cost of traps and melee abilities.
- Expose Prey lets attacks on your Hunter's Mark target trigger Mongoose Bite.
- Strider Kick at 21 points is an instant weapon strike with a short speed boost.
- Lacerating Strikes at 31 points makes Mongoose Bite add a bleed over 21 seconds.
Direction: Survival in Forever is a real melee build. If you want it, gear and talent for dual-wield melee and treat ranged attacks as support. The trap talents also make Survival a strong pick for dungeon crowd control.
About the calculator data
The GuildManager calculator uses BlizzCon demo data dated September 13, 2026. Its Hunter trees match Blizzard's deep dive closely. Beta changes since then are mostly tuning: Survival's Deflection was halved on October 1, Expose Prey's duration doubled on October 8, and Unleashed Fury now increases pet damage. Check current values before comparing builds.
For officers
Hunters bring long range, traps and pet utility, but no stun or interrupt. A Wolf adds party melee attack power and a Tallstrider can lower armor, so ask Hunters which pet they plan to raid with. A Lone Wolf Marksman brings neither. See our raid sizes and roster planning guide.
