WoW Forever Rogue talent builds: Mutilate, Hack and Slash and Thousand Cuts
Forever reshapes Rogues around poisons, axes and new finishers. How Assassination, Combat and Subtlety build, which milestones matter, and where our calculator differs.
Rogues in WoW Forever stay the stealth and control specialists, and Blizzard describes them as having the highest potential single-target melee damage. Each tree has a sharper identity now. Assassination gets Mutilate and a poison finisher called Venom, Combat replaces the old weapon specializations with Hack and Slash, and Subtlety builds around bleeds and Thousand Cuts.
These are build directions, not point-by-point optimal builds. Talents are still changing in beta. Plan your own points in the WoW Forever Rogue talent calculator.
How Forever talents work
Talents start at level 10, with one-point milestones at 11, 16, 21 and 31 points. Talents are changed at a class trainer in a major city, and dual specialization unlocks at level 40. Source: Blizzard's Rogue and Warlock class deep dive, published October 7.
What every Rogue gets
- Poisons have charges and can sit on a weapon alongside sharpening stones and weightstones.
- Rogues can equip one-handed axes.
- Sap no longer breaks Stealth.
- Distract also lowers enemies' stealth detection for 10 seconds.
- Expose Armor now reduces armor by about as much as five Sunder Armors and no longer blocks Sunder Armor.
- Feint reduces twice as much threat.
Assassination: daggers and poisons
- Malice raises crit for all attacks and poisons.
- Murder now affects Giants instead of Beasts and Dragonkin.
- Improved Expose Armor lowers Expose Armor's cost and refunds combo points at five points.
- Cold Blood is the 16-point milestone and also affects Mutilate.
- Improved Poisons gives poisons a large chance not to use a charge.
- Mutilate is the 21-point milestone. It costs 60 Energy, needs a dagger in each hand, awards two combo points and hits harder on poisoned targets.
- Seal Fate no longer requires Cold Blood and triggers from Mutilate crits.
- Venom is the 31-point milestone, a 25-Energy finisher that raises poison damage and application chance.
Direction: Assassination commits to dual daggers through Mutilate, then spends finishers on Venom to push poison damage. If you prefer other weapons, look at Combat.
Combat: weapons and Eviscerate
- Improved Eviscerate moved to the first row and hits harder.
- Puncturing Wounds gives Backstab a chance to grant an extra combo point.
- Precision raises hit for all attacks, spells and poisons.
- Flawless Execution is the 16-point milestone. It lowers Eviscerate's cost by 10 Energy.
- Hack and Slash replaces the dagger, mace, sword and fist weapon specializations. Axes now get the sword bonus, a chance for an extra attack, and maces ignore some armor instead of stunning.
- Weapon Expertise lowers the target's chance to dodge or parry you.
- Blade Flurry still gives Combat some cleave.
Direction: Combat is the flexible weapon tree. Hack and Slash means swords, axes and maces all have a talented path, so your choice can follow the weapons your guild actually gets.
Subtlety: tricks and bleeds
- Master of Deception gives the same effect for 3 points instead of 5.
- Setup and Initiative now reach a 100% trigger chance at 3 points.
- Dirty Tricks moved up and makes Sap and Blind much cheaper.
- Improved Distract widens Distract and weakens enemy stealth detection more.
- Premeditation is the 16-point milestone and lasts 20 seconds.
- Serrated Blades now ignores a percentage of armor that scales with level.
- Dirty Deeds lets you Garrote from the front.
- Hemorrhage also boosts your Rupture damage on the target.
- Cutthroat lets a Backstab make your next Ambush usable outside Stealth.
- Thousand Cuts is the 31-point milestone. Each Rupture tick makes your next Hemorrhage or Backstab cheaper, stacking up to five times.
Direction: Subtlety links Rupture to Hemorrhage or Backstab through Thousand Cuts. The cheaper Sap and Blind from Dirty Tricks also make it the control-focused choice for dungeons and PvP.
About the calculator data
The GuildManager calculator uses BlizzCon demo data dated September 13, 2026. Blizzard's October 7 deep dive lists Flawless Execution as Combat's 16-point milestone. Our data still shows Restless Blades in that position. Use the deep dive's list for Combat until the calculator data is updated.
For officers
Rogues bring Sap, Blind, Distract and stealth utility. In raids, Expose Armor now coexists with Sunder Armor, so ask whether your Rogues or Warriors handle armor reduction. Assassination requires two daggers, which matters when you plan loot priority. See our guild loot systems guide and raid sizes and roster planning guide.
