WoW Forever Shaman talent builds: Lava Burst, Maelstrom Weapon and Riptide
Forever's Shaman gets totem sets, party-wide Windfury and new capstones. How Elemental, Enhancement and Restoration build, and what changed in beta.
Shamans in WoW Forever remain totem specialists who buff, heal and support a group, and they can play spell damage, melee damage or healer. The biggest daily change is totem management. Totems last longer, can be summoned as preset sets, and can be moved. Each tree also gets a new capstone: Lava Burst, Rage of the Farseer or Riptide.
New race options include Dwarf Shamans for the Alliance and Skyborne Shamans for the Horde. These are build directions, not point-by-point optimal builds, and talents are still changing in beta. Plan your own points in the WoW Forever Shaman talent calculator.
How Forever talents work
Talents start at level 10, with one-point milestones at 11, 16, 21 and 31 points. Talents are changed at a class trainer in a major city, and dual specialization unlocks at level 40. Source: Blizzard's Mage and Shaman class deep dive.
What every Shaman gets
- Totems have a 1-second global cooldown, and persistent totems last 5 minutes instead of 2. A new tracking display shows your active totems.
- Call of the Elements at level 20 summons a preset of four totems in one 3-second cast. Call of the Spirits at 30 and Call of the Ancestors at 40 add second and third presets.
- Totemic Recall at 20 removes your totems and refunds part of their mana. Totemic Projection at 22 moves all of them up to 30 yards.
- Weapon imbues last 60 minutes and stack with stones and oils.
- Windfury Totem and Flametongue Totem are now party-wide buffs. Windfury Totem cannot be active with Grace of Air or Flametongue Totem.
- Resistance totems now cover the whole raid group. Tranquil Air Totem is gone.
- Fire Nova replaces Fire Nova Totem and detonates at your current Fire totem.
- Lightning Bolt ranks 4 and up and all Chain Lightning ranks cast half a second faster, with lower coefficients to match.
Elemental: spell damage
- Call of Flame also boosts Flame Shock, Fire Nova and Lava Burst.
- Elemental Devastation moved to row 2 so Enhancement Shamans can reach it.
- Elemental Alacrity shortens Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning and Lava Burst casts.
- Eye of the Storm gives pushback protection while casting your main damage spells.
- Call of Thunder is the 16-point milestone, adding 3% crit to Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning.
- Lightning Overload gives Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning a chance to cast a free half-damage copy.
- Earthbound is the 21-point milestone. Earthbind Totem roots nearby enemies for 5 seconds when cast.
- Lava Burst is the 31-point milestone, a 2.5-second Fire spell that hits 20% harder on targets with your Flame Shock.
Elemental Mastery is gone. Blizzard removed it because it could not be balanced for PvE without being too strong in PvP.
Direction: Elemental builds toward a Flame Shock and Lava Burst cycle with Lightning Bolt filler, backed by Lightning Overload procs. Earthbound gives the tree real crowd control for dungeons.
Enhancement: melee and instant Lightning Bolts
- Thundering Strikes now raises crit for all attacks and spells.
- Mental Dexterity adds attack power based on Intellect, and Flurry now requires it.
- Shamanistic Focus is the 11-point milestone, a large mana discount on Shocks and Lightning Shield.
- Stormstrike moved down to the 16-point milestone with an 8-second cooldown. It boosts your next Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning or Earth Shock by 20%.
- Spirit Weapons is the 21-point talent. It reduces threat unless you use Rockbiter Weapon, which instead raises threat.
- Mental Quickness adds spell damage and healing based on Intellect.
- Maelstrom Weapon lets melee hits build charges that shorten Lightning Bolt, up to an instant cast.
- Rage of the Farseer is the 31-point milestone, a 3-minute cooldown for 30% more attack speed over 25 seconds.
Direction: Enhancement mixes melee with spell damage. Stormstrike and Maelstrom Weapon both feed into Lightning Bolt, and Mental Dexterity and Mental Quickness both scale with Intellect. Spirit Weapons with Rockbiter also gives Enhancement a threat option.
Restoration: healer
- Totemic Focus also discounts Totemic Projection and the Call spells.
- Mindfulness allows Spirit-based mana regeneration while casting.
- Water Shield is the 11-point milestone. Its globes restore mana when you are hit or land a critical heal.
- Mana Tide Totem moved down to the 16-point milestone.
- Healing Way now raises Healing Wave's healing directly.
- Riptide is the 31-point milestone. It heals instantly, then over 15 seconds, and makes Chain Heal 25% stronger on its target, on a 6-second cooldown.
Direction: Restoration in Forever has a strong mana toolkit in Water Shield, Mindfulness and an earlier Mana Tide Totem. Riptide pairs with Chain Heal for group healing.
About the calculator data
The GuildManager calculator uses BlizzCon demo data dated September 13, 2026. In Elemental, Blizzard's deep dive places Elemental Alacrity in row 3, ahead of Call of Thunder, with Elemental Fury in row 6. Our data has those two the other way round, and the September 24 beta notes record a swap between them. Check the in-game tree before you plan Elemental points. Other changes since September are tuning, such as Riptide now being able to crit and Rage of the Farseer no longer raising cast speed.
For officers
Party-wide Windfury and Flametongue totems change how you group Shamans with melee and casters, and Windfury cannot run alongside Grace of Air. Resistance totems now cover the raid. Ask each Shaman which totems they plan to drop for their group. Our raid sizes and roster planning guide covers buff stacking.
