Aion 2 pets and Genus Insight: how the collection makes you stronger

Pet souls improve individual species, Genus Insight develops families, and their owned effects add permanent character power.

Your active pet is only one part of the system

Pets are easy to mistake for mounts or cosmetics. In Aion 2, the collection also contributes character power. Improving a species adds owned effects, while Genus Insight develops the wider family that pet belongs to.

This guide uses regional information available on September 12, 2026. Required souls, family costs, sharing rules, and reward sources may differ on global. Check the numbers shown in your client before committing to a long farm.

Pet souls and Soul Crystals do different jobs

Pet progression has two layers.

Pet souls improve one specific species. Collecting more souls fills that pet's collection entry and raises its level. Regional versions cap an individual pet at level 3. You are developing one entry, not filling your inventory with separate copies.

Soul Crystals feed Genus Insight. That system develops a family of related pets and rolls stats in its available slots. Regional versions allow a family to reach level 10. Kina is also part of the cost.

Remember the split:

Open the pet or family screen before spending. Similar names do not mean the materials are interchangeable.

Owned effects add up

A pet's owned effects remain useful even when another companion is active. That makes the collection itself a source of progression.

Small bonuses across several entries can add up to attack, health, critical, accuracy, evasion, resistance, or other stats. This does not mean every pet deserves the same amount of time. Start with species you meet naturally and bonuses that help your current build.

The pet you like looking at can still be your active companion. Collection progress comes from the entries you have developed, not only the pet beside your character.

Find the source before farming

Open a locked or incomplete pet entry and read its source. A species may come from a certain region, dungeon, named enemy, event, or reward chest.

Begin with pets along routes you already run. If three useful species appear during your daily quests, work on those before crossing the world for a small bonus. Save targeted farming for a level that unlocks a stat your build actually needs.

Daily activities can also provide pet progression materials. Check our dungeon guide before choosing which limited reward to claim.

Improve the species one level at a time

The pet card shows your current progress, required souls, and upcoming owned effects. Read the next level rather than assuming every step gives the same value.

If the next bonus is useful and the source is convenient, keep going. If the requirement jumps sharply for a minor gain, move to another accessible species. Collection progression rewards breadth when several cheap improvements are available.

Old tables can be wrong after requirement changes. Use the gauge in the current client.

How Genus Insight works

Genus Insight applies progression to a pet family. Analysis consumes Soul Crystals and Kina, adds family experience, and rolls stats in the open slots. More progression can open more places for those stats.

You can lock a result you want to keep, but locks make later attempts more expensive. Do not lock the first acceptable line out of habit. Build family levels first, then protect a result strong enough to justify the added cost.

If the interface offers automatic analysis, set the desired outcome carefully. Automation still consumes the displayed materials each time it rolls.

Server-wide sharing changes the value of alts

NCSOFT changed the regional pet system in January 2026 so pet ownership and Genus Insight could apply across characters on the same server. Pet levels are aggregated, while Genus Insight uses the highest value reached among those characters.

That is a major quality-of-life change, but confirm that global uses the same rule. If it does, spreading the same pet work across several characters is unnecessary. If it does not, decide which character owns the investment before spending.

Read our first-week guide before adding alts to your routine.

Do not spend Kina without a stopping point

Genus analysis can quietly drain Kina because every attempt feels small. Choose a stopping rule before you start:

  • A family level you want to reach.
  • One stat line worth keeping.
  • A Kina reserve you will not spend below.
  • A maximum number of attempts for the session.

Stop when any limit is reached. You can return after earning more materials or after another upgrade becomes the better use of Kina.

A practical pet routine

During normal play:

  1. Check new pet entries when they unlock.
  2. Kill convenient species along your quest and dungeon routes.
  3. Claim collection milestones before leaving the menu.
  4. Save Soul Crystals until you know which family you want to develop.
  5. Review Genus locks before another analysis session.

This turns pet growth into steady background progress. A deliberate ten-minute check is better than a three-hour farm for the wrong species.
