Aion 2 DPS meter: how to read your legion's damage
How the Guild Manager desktop app's Aion 2 DPS meter works, how to set it up, what each number means, and what NCSOFT's operation policy says about third-party programs.
Start with one boss pull
When a pull wipes at 8%, compare the fight's damage timeline with deaths and the point where damage slows down. A total damage ranking on its own cannot explain the wipe.
The Guild Manager desktop app has an Aion 2 DPS meter for that. This guide covers what it does today, how to set it up, how to read the numbers, and what NCSOFT's rules say about programs like it.
The meter is in beta. It can miss a fight, and saving or backing up a fight can fail. If something breaks, tell us on Discord.
What it does today
- Live party overlay. DPS, total damage, and damage share for each party member, drawn over the game.
- Fight history on your PC. Finished fights are saved locally. You can set it to keep boss fights and drop open-world trash.
- Skill breakdown. Hits, critical hits, back attacks, and other hit types for every skill.
- Timeline and buffs. Damage per second over the fight, the target's remaining HP when it was observed, and buff and debuff uptime.
- Fight comparison. Put two saved fights side by side, such as a wipe next to the kill.
- Account backup. Back up any fight to your Guild Manager account and review it on the web.
- Public DPS boards. Publish your boss fights to the Armory's public boards if you want to.
What it doesn't do yet: share fights with your legion. Fight reports that sit next to the raid they came from are planned, but they haven't shipped. Healing and damage taken aren't tracked yet either.
Setting it up
- Install the Guild Manager desktop app for Windows. The meter is in the regular release, so you don't need the Nightly channel.
- Sign in with Discord.
- Start Aion 2 in windowed or borderless windowed mode. The overlay can't draw over exclusive fullscreen.
- Open In-game overlay and turn on Track AION 2 damage.
On Windows the meter needs Npcap, the packet capture driver, to read the game's network traffic. The app checks whether it's installed and offers to run the official Npcap installer for you. If Npcap was installed in administrator-only mode, the app tells you and offers to restart itself as administrator.
The meter also runs in the early Linux Nightly build, which asks for your password once to allow packet capture. The desktop app runs on Apple silicon Macs, but the meter doesn't.
Aion 2's global servers are the supported target.
How to read the numbers
Estimated DPS is damage divided by fight time. It's an estimate because the meter only sees what it captured. When capture misses part of a fight, the fight is marked as possibly partial. Don't treat a partial fight as a record, good or bad.
Damage share is each member's part of the party's total. It says more than raw DPS when you compare across nights, because it doesn't move just because the boss died faster.
Skill breakdown is where rotation problems show up. Look at:
- A core skill with fewer hits than you expected, which usually means it was used late or skipped.
- Back attack counts on skills that reward positioning.
- The smallest and largest single hits, which show how much a skill swings.
Some hit-type flags are still being checked against the in-game combat log. The fight detail marks those figures as pilot numbers, so don't build a ranking argument on them.
Timeline shows damage per second across the fight next to the target's HP. A dip that lines up with a mechanic is expected. A dip that doesn't line up with anything is often a death, a movement phase handled badly, or a buff window that was missed.
Buffs show uptime on yourself and on the target. If a debuff your damage depends on has low uptime, start there before you change your gear.
Use it to fix a fight, not to rank people
A damage meter answers one question well: where did the damage go? Use it to answer that.
- Compare the wipe to the kill. Save both and open them side by side. The difference is usually one or two skills or one phase, not "everyone needs more DPS."
- Compare like with like. A healer or tank on the same chart as pure damage dealers is not a fair comparison. The meter doesn't track healing or damage taken yet, so their contribution isn't on it.
- Let people review their own fights first. History stays on each player's PC unless they back it up. Ask for a backup when you want to look together. Don't ask for screenshots of everyone's numbers.
Keeping the right fights
The Save fights setting decides what goes into history. Set to bosses, open-world trash still shows live but isn't kept. If the meter can't tell whether a fight was a boss, it keeps the fight, because losing a real boss fight costs more than keeping a stray one.
If you end a fight yourself with Finish encounter, it's kept whatever it was.
Fights stay on your PC. Backing one up to your account is always your choice, and the meter never uploads a fight on its own. Backed-up fights appear under Your combat backups on the DPS meter page.
Publishing to the public DPS boards
You can publish a backed-up boss fight to the Armory's public DPS boards. A fight can be published when:
- It's a boss fight.
- It happened on a Global server.
- Your character is linked in the Aion 2 Armory.
- Your character's class and combat power are known.
- Your character did damage in it.
You can set the difficulty or leave it unspecified. Some fights are listed only after a review. You can also turn on automatic publishing for boss fights you back up, and unpublish any fight later.
Is a DPS meter allowed in Aion 2?
NCSOFT sets the rules, and we can't answer for them. Here's what the published policy says and what our meter does.
NCSOFT's AION2 Operation Policies list "Use of Unauthorized Programs" as a sanctioned violation. The policy describes this as programs, devices, or equipment that circumvent technical protection measures or interfere with normal operations, for example programs enabling actions impossible for regular users. It separately prohibits modifying or tampering with client or server programs. NCSOFT's recurring account restriction notices list "macros, bots or other unauthorized programs" among the reasons for bans.
We have not found an NCSOFT statement that approves, endorses, or lists any Aion 2 DPS meter, including ours. Nothing in this post means NCSOFT has approved it.
What the Guild Manager meter does and doesn't do:
- It reads the game's network traffic through Npcap. It doesn't inject code into the game or change game memory.
- It doesn't press keys, send commands, or play for you.
- It doesn't upload a fight unless you back it up or publish it.
Read the current operation policy yourself and decide before you use any meter.
